The HOT BIRD™ TV Awards is an annual event distinguishing excellence and innovation in thematic satellite television. The event was created in 1998 by Eutelsat, Europe’s leading satellite operator, and is a prestigious recognition for channels broadcasting via Eutelsat. The objective of the competition is to highlight quality thematic television production and new concepts that capture audience attention and enrich the viewing experience.
Since thematic channels are a major component of the broadcasting landscape, the event’s purpose is to see where the talent is, what is really new in the market and to recognize the creativity and innovation of thematic broadcasters to retain their audience.
More and more channels have registered over the years: the 2009 edition saw the entry of 150 channels.
The prize-giving ceremony, held in November and called “The Night of Satellites”, gathers over 200 international broadcasting professionals.
This year’s ceremony will be held on Friday 19 November in Venice, Italy.
